Theoretical Application paper

  You are required to write an application paper. This is an essay of 3 pages, written in APA format, that takes one theory from our readings and correctly illustrates how that theory applies to TV show episodes, movies, or current events. You will start each essay by explaining the theory you are using and then demonstrate that you can accurately apply terms (and ideas) from the theory. (The Theories ) Required to pick one of your choosing -Social Penetration Theory -Relational Dialectics Theory -Uncertainty Reduction Theory -Cognitive Dissonance -Social Information Processing Theory -Cultivation Theory -Semiotics -Uses and Gratification -Cultural Studies   Identify specific dialogue, explain the themes of the movie; use the theory chosen to guide this discussion. The goal here is to demonstrate the applicability of a theory to the example in the media. Students may use any theory from the ones have examined so far, taking care to find specific instances to support their thesis. Students should include an analysis of the scene. You should not simply describe the film without also analyzing how the scene relates to the concepts. At the beginning of your essay, explain what theory you will be applying and then clearly demonstrate that you know how to accurately apply that theory.
