The relationship between theory, research, and practice is often described as a continuous feedback loop. In nursing, this "triad" ensures that care is not just a collection of tasks, but a sophisticated, evolving science.

1. The Interrelationship: A Cyclical Trinity

Theory (The Framework): Theory provides the "why" behind nursing actions. It offers a systematic way to view a patient’s needs, providing a lens through which we interpret complex clinical situations. Without theory, practice lacks direction and professional identity.

Research (The Evidence): Research is the engine of discovery. it uses scientific methods to test the predictions made by theories. It provides the "proof" that a specific intervention is effective, safe, and efficient.

Practice (The Reality): Practice is the application of knowledge. It is the real-world environment where theories are implemented and research findings are put to the test.

The Dynamic Loop:

Theory informs Research: Researchers design studies based on theoretical frameworks to see if they hold true.
