Paralegals are individuals who are highly trained and whose primary job is to assist the attorneys in the legal proceedings that take place on daily basis. Although they are neither allowed to appear in the court of law nor are they allowed to accept legal cases, they are a critical member of the team of attorneys. The paralegals help in researching cases, preparation of affidavits and in drafting legal documents. As part of the paralegal team working at Copper Grace Ward, it is my duty to listen to the clients and try to help my team of attorneys in addressing the concern of clients in a way that is cost effective and add values at the same time. The two values which form the cornerstones of working at Copper Grace Ward are transparency and honesty as because in Copper grace Ward the relationship with client is long standing and based on trust (Cooper grace Ward, 2016). It is also my job at the company to perform extensive research such that solutions can be catered to the industry and needs of the client and help in delivering the content to the client in plain and easy to understand English language. In order to develop my skills and make me suitable for the job at hand I have to update my skills on a periodic basis. In this regards there are several certificate and degree courses which I need to undertake from time to time in order to update my skills. Some of the skills that are required to excel in this job are: Research skills- The job of Paralegal requires me to conduct extensive research so that I can identify, analyze and evaluate law sources so as to apply those theories in practical issues and cases. Not only I am required to keep updated myself with the latest cases but it is also required that my communication and interviewing skills are developed and I strive regularly for the same. Communication skills- In addition to conducting extensive research my profession also requires me to have great communication skills so that I am able to present the researched information in clear and concise manner. My job requires me to be able to draft legal correspondence and legal documents that makes them clear concise and accurate. In this regards I am required to update my communications skills on a regular so that the same is improved and I am able to help my team and company in satisfying the needs of the clients. Part B-compliance with codes There are several rules and protocols that are required to be followed by a paralegal professional and if the paralegal professional fails to follow those rules or protocols there might be compliance issues which might arise. A paralegal should exercise codes of professionalism, which involves showing integrity and civility in his or her work as a paralegal professional. A paralegal person who acts as a mediator should clarify at the outset that he is not acting as the representative of either of those parties but is simply acting as a mediator between them. A paralegal while rendering his services should not engage in acts of sexual harassment of his clients or colleague and is also not required to discriminate his client on the basis of any ground of discrimination. For being inducted into any legal profession or that of a paralegal post it is required that the person should be natural and has completed 18 years of age (Queensland, 2014). It is also required for the person to have completed required legal qualifications and has completed the necessary training requirements. The paralegal is required to adhere to the rules that require him to perform his duty to clients and behave diligently while dealing with the clients such that there is no conflict of interest (Queensland law society, 2012). As a paralegal, one is required to display in his work highest standards of trust and dedication and work while keeping in mind the best interest of his client and the company he is working for. If the paralegal fails to comply with these set of rules then his license might be amended or cancelled.
