Trauma and traumatic stress

Address a special issue relevant to trauma and traumatic stress. It can involve expanding on any of the topics reviewed in class or a topic not discussed directly in class may be selected. The paper should focus on a particular area of trauma. This will be graded as a scholarly paper and needs to include critical thought and application of concepts throughout the assignment. The paper should not exceed 15 double-spaced pages at 12-point font. Papers will be graded on basic content (see sections outlined below), quality (comprehensiveness of ideas, thoughts, and clarity), and form (spelling, grammar, etc.). Below is an example of an outline, however, this may look different depending on the type of paper (e.g. case study, theoretical application) that you submit.

Introduction (5 pts). The first section describes the nature of the type of trauma selected and the gaps in the literature that will be filled by this paper and the goal of the paper.
Literature Review and Theory Application (5pts). This section reviews application of theory and background literature on the topic. Discuss the prevailing and relevant theoretical explanations and key relevant recent literature related to the topic. Include research publications, books/book chapters, and other relevant academic literature about your topic of choice. It is expected that these papers will be informed by outside research/academic literature. Review, consider, and synthesize a wide range of information and literature available on the topic.
Approaches to Trauma Prevention and Intervention (10 pts). This section presents information on educational and/or treatment modalities to address the trauma issues. Interventions may range from immediate to long-term programs. Alternatively, they may address the problem at different levels, e.g., the individual or interpersonal level, the community level, or at the level of the wider society or world. You may review one exceptional (model) program relevant to your topic of choice and evaluate it or you may identify key best practices from multiple programs—you do not need to “create” a program, but you do need to provide a thorough description and critical evaluation of the relevant program(s) related to your topic, including best practices and/or limitations of the program(s). You do not have to use models from class, but must be able to provide evidence of the efficacy of the model/ treatment.
Clinical Considerations (3 pts). Knowledge regarding a particular form of trauma may be limited in significant ways. In this section suggestions are made regarding future research that would inform the particular trauma topic. Specific questions and areas that should be further examined or evaluated should be discussed. Suggested Length:
Reference Page (2 pts). All sources referred to must be included in-text and on the reference page. References must be handled professionally and accurately using current APA formatting. References should be primarily academic and empirically-based; some web-based references are
