E-portfolios are considered the authentic work-products of students and well-suited for self-assessment and peer-review (as a means of improving student learning). Why is this so, in your opinion? Why are e-portfolios more authentic representations of your work, for example, over a graded comprehensive exam or a thesis?

While a thesis certainly provides a better understanding of a student’s research, writing, and organizational talents, it generally only exhibits depth of knowledge regarding a specific topic. While this level of focus may be desirable within certain technical fields, the breadth of knowledge presented in an e-portfolio will often be better-suited for the evaluation of a student’s management potential.
E-portfolios are also uniquely beneficial for self-assessment. In my case, the process of choosing products for inclusion in my e-portfolio helped me to understand more about how my degree relates to my personal interests. My tendency to gravitate toward transportation and logistics topics related to national security helped me to better understand how I want to apply my degree in the future.
What are some good ways to build, improve upon, and effectively leverage an e-portfolio even years after graduation?

I do think that Portfolios are better work-product of students. I say that because in life and in the workplace if you get stuck there is always someone to help you. When you take an exam you are alone and if you get stuck it sucks to be you is the attitude so it does not show your ability to think critically or produce a high quality product.
When you produce work for a Portfolio you are showing you have the capability to do some level of work with the help of various resources. By showing that you know how to uses resources to synthesize information you display the fact that you have critical thinking abilities as well as some level of writing skills. By showing everyone your ability to write you are displaying a level of communication skills too. In the portfolio you are showing that you can communicate a problem and the ability to think about solving the problem. While doing that the writer is trying to convey a thought through their writing. A good writer can convey their thoughts in a clear, concise, and understandable manner, which an exam cannot display.
As a previous recruiter and hiring authority it was more important for me to know how someone worked than what their test scores showed. Just because someone has great grades does not mean that the one who had poor grades is would be a worse candidate. Maybe one was a full time student which allowed school to be priority and one held multiple jobs to help pay for school so course work was not a priority.
