Consider an application where a device needs to be operated on and off at intervals with a specified duration.
Using Fusion360 or Multisim Live:
1) Create a schematic diagram of an adjustable timer circuit using an IC 555 chip for a bike light flasher as considered in weeks 14 – 16 (Module Content → Electrical CAD and Simulation [Electrical Students] Week 14-16). You should: [25 Marks]
i. select the values of the circuit components, so that your circuit will produce pulses with of length 1s and pause between consecutive pulses for 1s;
ii. use the timer circuit to activate two LED indicators;
iii. both the timer circuit and LED’s will be powered by a battery DC source which you should provide a suitable connector for;
iv. produce a final circuit diagram with all component types and their values specified. Use only standard electrical symbols in the technical drawing; and
v. verify the performance of the circuit you have designed using appropriate simulations using Fusion360 or MultiSim Live.
2) Create a PCB layout of the timer circuit using Fusion 360 or alternative software. The PCB should contain all components included in the schematic diagram except for the power source. A suitable connector should be chosen to provide power to the circuit. Finally, generate a 3D model of the PCB board, you have designed. [35 Marks]
In addition to the technical communication above, write a short report which answers the following:
3) Write a 200-word statement which describes:
i. electrical components selected for the PCB
[3 Marks] ii. reasoning for the component selection [7 Marks]
iii. a proposed manufacturing process for the PCB [3 Marks]
iv. reasoning for the proposed manufacturing process [7 Marks]
4) Using no more than 200 words, explain the importance of team-working and collaboration in the delivery of complex multidisciplinary projects and how such teams can be effectively managed when the teams members are located in different national and international geographical locations. (i.e. use of project management tools). [20 Marks]
