When teachers plan instruction, they should ensure there is alignment across the academic standards, curriculum, instruction and assessment. Lesson
learning objectives should align to relevant academic standards, and instructional activities and instructional resources should clearly align to and support
lesson learning objectives. Finally, assessments should align with academic standards, the curriculum, and instructional activities and resources so they
accurately measure student achievement.
In this task, you will create a rubric that will be used to measure alignment across the curriculum, instruction, and assessment in a lesson plan. You will then
use the rubric you created to evaluate the alignment of your lesson plan from Task 2 of this assessment and identify areas of strength and areas for
improvement in your lesson plan design.
Over the course of this task, you will develop an original rubric, submit a scored version of the rubric you developed that evaluates the lesson plan from Task
2, and discuss the strengths and areas for growth in your original lesson plan from Task 2.
Requirements:
A. Create an original rubric that uses a leveled performance scale that could be used to evaluate the alignment of the curriculum, instruction, and
assessment in a lesson plan. Submit your original rubric.
- Design the rubric from part A to be a tool that could be used to measure the following in a lesson plan:
a. alignment between the lesson learning objective(s) and the academic standard(s)
b. alignment between instructional activities and the lesson learning objective(s)
c. alignment between instructional materials and the lesson learning objective(s)
d. alignment between the assessment(s) and the instructional activities and the lesson learning objective(s)
B. Using the rubric you created in part A and the lesson plan you developed in Task 2, evaluate the alignment of the lesson plan’s components listed in parts
A1a–A1d. Submit your scored rubric from the evaluation. - Discuss one strength in the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment in your lesson plan from Task 2 that you identified when evaluating the
lesson plan. - Discuss one area for improvement in the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment in your lesson plan from Task 2 that you identified when
evaluating the lesson plan.
