Working effectively within a clinical governance (CG) framework

Working effectively within a clinical governance (CG) framework requires thorough understanding of the key concepts and principles of CG and how these are applied in our workplace. The aim of this assessment is to demonstrate your awareness of CG in your workplace through reflection on the principles of CG and the way an organisation and health professional apply these principles. In doing so you will develop and clarify your understanding of CG to recognise gaps in practice, areas for improvement, and how to strengthen these for improved quality and safety.
In essay format, describe the differences between CG and the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, Aged Care Quality Standards or the new National Safety and Quality Primary and Community Healthcare Standards, select the standards most relevant to your workplace.

National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards are the most relevant to my workplace

Then, analyse CG in your immediate workplace - I work for Canberra health services (Canberra hospital), or a previous workplace if you are not currently working. Include a discussion of your role (or prior role) -I am a registered nurse in Australia

and application of the CG principles within your workplace and illustrate this with an example.
The following questions will help you formulate your ideas for this assessment:
• What is the purpose of CG and the relevant standards, and who are the stakeholders?
• What does CG look like in your workplace? What are some examples?
• Why may there be differences between the CG framework in your workplace and your subject
readings?
• How does your organisation help staff recognise CG in your workplace?
• Does your team understand CG and is this reflected in their practice? Why or why not?
• How are you supported to understand your role within CG in your workplace?
• What actions do you undertake in your role that reflect and apply the principles of CG?
