Below are the requirements for this essay.
Write a five-paragraph essay that describes the pathos (Body 1), ethos (Body 2), and
logos (Body 3) of the image. Your essay should have an introduction, three body
paragraphs, and a conclusion.
Each paragraph should have at least 7-10 sentences.
For the introduction paragraph, explain if you think the ad is effective enough to
persuade viewers or readers to think about its topic based upon its pathos, ethos,
and logos. The introduction will end with a thesis that explains whether or not the
ad effectively uses pathos, ethos, and logos.
Use transitional words for each topic sentence of each body paragraph, such as
additionally, first, furthermore, moreover. Each body should start with a clearly-
stated topic sentence. For example: “The ad effectively uses pathos.”
Consider the following questions as you write about pathos body paragraph:
What emotions do the colors bring?
What emotions does the ad suggest?
Does it appeal to any traditions?
Consider the following questions as you write about ethos body paragraph:
Does the ad mention any years of experience?
Does the ad use a spokesperson/celebrity?
Does the ad suggest an agency that has credibility?
Consider the following questions as your write about logos body paragraph:
Does the ad show any data?
Does the ad show a pattern of behavior or events?
Does the ad mention any research?
Does the image appear to be logical?
Write a conclusion paragraph that reminds the reader that you proved the
effectiveness or ineffectiveness rating of the ad. End with advice of improving the
ad or celebrating its effectiveness. Remember to paraphrase the thesis at the
beginning of the conclusion.
